More informations:
Château: Château Cos d’Estournel. Stendhal called it simply " Cos " (the " s " is not pronounced), from the single work engraved on the front of the strange building of eastern inspiration that houses the store house and the vats. A mysterious word which can also be spelt " caux " or " causse " and refers to a sun-drenched rocky plateau of poor terroir. The very best kind of gravel, similar to that of the earth of the neighbouring Lafitte-Rothschild Domaine in Pauillac. A unique example, Cos d’Estournel has a very strong personality, aristocratic yet at the same time exotic, heightened by a modern production process under the leadership of Bruno Prats who does not hesitate to introduce a proportion of the best merlot to be found in the haut-médoc into the combination (40%, per 60% of cabernet-sauvignon), or to filter the wine not once, but twice, and aged in a proportion of new oak barrels that goes from 75% and indeed to 100% (1986) ! The result is apt for the most daring: extremely generous, mature, lingering, very spicy. Today, Cos d’Estournel is often considered the best saint-estèphe, and one of the finest wines of the Bordeaux region. Yet perhaps a further 20 to 30 years are needed before it reaches its full potential.
