Château Mouton Rothschild 1970
(Château Mouton Rothschild)
(Château Mouton Rothschild)
First Classed Growth, Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
|
 |
|
Though volatile in character, when the 1970 is at it's best, it is absolutely at its best. This Mouton Rothschild demands for a long decanting period. After some time, it unleashes an elegant bouquet of rare spices, tobacco, minerals, and blackcurrant aromas, which are all harnessed by its succulent and rigid structure. Label designed by Marc Chagall.

Château: |
Château Mouton Rothschild. This domain, situated in the Médoc region, has an area of 37.5 acres and produces approximately 300,000 bottles a year. The great quality of its soil allows it to create fine, powerful wines in most years.
While perhaps slightly less renowned than Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton is prized by wine aficionados both for its deeply concentrated flavors and for the drawings by famous artists featured on its bottle labels.
In 1973 Mouton Rothschild improved from a second cru to a first cru. Since 1855 this was the only change in the classification.
Mouton is one of the most innovative châteaux from the Bordeaux region: it was one of the first to have included the mention “mis en bottle au Chateau” (bottled at the Chateau). Since 1945, the label for each vintage is illustrated by a contemporary artist.
The second wine is Le Petit Mouton.
