Except for the Premiers Crus, Château Pontet Canet is one of the best 2008 Pauillac wines.
Its vineyard spreads out on an excellent gravel and sand hill, and over ideally poor sub-soils that are located on the south side of Mouton Rothschild and push the Cabernet Sauvignon grape to outdo itself.
One of the best 2008 Pauillac
It accounts for 65% of the 2008 vintage. Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot provide charm and suppleness to its distinguished, uncompromising character.
The wine distinguishes itself by a crimson, almost black colour, and refined and intense aromas of blackberries, flowers, chalk and cedar. Its precision and fineness are extraordinary.
Under the palate, Pontet Canet 2008 reveals pure aromas of black berries, and a full, powerful and very dense body that, for the moment, tightens around its rich and opulent texture. Time will “tan” it and give it the class of old leathers!
This excellent Pauillac, which is expressive and very long, finishes on nuances of pepper and violets.
