The winners of the first « Grand Tasting »
Wednesday 20/12/2006
Succeding the « Salon des grands vins », the « Grand Tasting » put together the latest 200 elitist producers in the prestigious Carrousel du Louvre on november 24th and 25th. Created by professionals of the world of wine, such as Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve, this event is a nearly unique opportunity to taste great wines from all over the world and, like at a cinema festival, to distinguish four categories.
The « price of Bettane and Desseauve of the wine of the year” went to Château l’Arrosée in Saint-Emilion for its 2004 vintage that “has illustrated the qualities, making the genius of the French wines, the most brilliantly” according to the jury. The Blanc de Chardonnay 1998 of Pol Roger gained the same price in the category “Sparkling wine”.
Further laurels, like “man of the year”, crowned two heads in 2006: the one of Jean-Michel Cazes from Lynch-Bages in Pauillac and of Paul Draper from Ridge Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Montains in California.
To mention finally is the lovely performance of the foreign domains like Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, that became the ”New Zealand reference of Sauvignon Blanc” and of the Domaine Disnoko in Hungary, that was distinguished as one of the most authentics of the Tokaj wines.
