Wine sublimation
Thursday 14/09/2006
"After all, if wine has body, it has shape as well." From this evidence, to talk about the wines character, people often use the words generally reserved to senses. This wine will be rich, this one will be a delicate one and this other, fleshy: these adjectives having female or male connotations wonder if wine has a gender. According to Nadine Gublin, Sandrine Garbay and bérénice Lurton, three important women in the wine world, there is no doubt about it.
"Talking about wine is making senses and emotions speaking", Nadine Gublin declare, one of the best wine taster of Burgundy, elaborating the wines of the Jacques Prieur and Antonin Rodet domains. Passionate, she imagines the Pinot noir like a refined and willowy woman "with an intense velvety of soul and who does not loose her aristocracy with time". On the Night Cost the nice Chambolle-Musigny will be the one who dreams of Chambertin Grand cru, the male Burgundy wine with a flamboyant side, "his ardent aromas of blackberry-blush at the end of summertime".
The Bordeaux wines, are at the origin of greatest emotions too. Sandrine Garbay "give birth" each year to the fabulous Château d’Yquem, "An absolute balance temptation". At the first rank of her concerts, she delights “this outstanding strength that never refuses elegance and offers a perfect and muscular body relating mellowness and manliness.” Same rank, same blood (the Semillon grape variety), Château Climens at Barsac seems to be new each year under the control of Bérénice Lurton. "A jaunty grape variety, it does not have a great personality but it is a charismatic character of our terroir: it is our Callas”. Or a wonderful prima ballerina who is flying away in the air and never lands…
Sublimation? Outrageousness? Whatever the wine gender is, one thing is sure: people talk about it! So, let’s “taste the wine to judge if it is good or not”, they we will talk about it.
