Alsace: Pinots honored in 2005
Tuesday 11/10/2005
Alsace did not benefit from the extraordinary weather conditions like the other French areas. But wine-makers stay very optimistic. 2005 will be a well-balanced vintage made of beautiful, healthy and perfectly ripe fruits. The Alsace wine growers union chairman, Jean Tet, notes a positive point: the usually criticized excess of sugar has disappeared this year. Without claiming that 2005 will be superior to the 2000 and 2001 vintages, the owner of the Zind-Humbrecht domain, Olivier Humbrecht, is also optimistic. If the Riesling and Gewurtraminner harvests seemed more difficult, the Pinot grapes (black, white, grey or auxerrois) offered a real quality of fruits, promise of a great balance between ripeness and acidity.
