Red carpet for Cahors wines
Wednesday 07/12/2005
About thirty years ago, Cahors wines were pushed into the background. Malbec grape variety also called 'Côt' or 'Auxerrois', does not bear its fruits and most part of the French winegrowers considered it as cursed. But vinegrowers from Cahors could not resign themselves to abandon this so emblematic grape from their area. Face to the crisis, and still hoping Cahors wines would one day enter in the “Vins de Terroir” ('Soil's wines') category, some winegrowers have been all betting on quality and time. And, when all necessary care was accorded, when outputs were reduced, a new light on the famous Malbec was thrown. Cahors wines became then seducing wines, combining nuances and elegance. A lineage in which Triguedina, Lamartine and Cèdre domains perfectly found their place. But the real miracle of Cahors wines is their price: 20 euros for a great and prestigious reserve with an ageing potential of five years, and sometimes many more… We have to admit that Cahors wines are back.
