Clarendelle : an alternative star faced with the new world wines
Thursday 01/12/2005 |
Clarence Dillon Wines, the owner of the Bordeaux Grand Cru Château Haut-Brion situated in Pessac-Léognan, is launching a new range of premium Bordeaux wines. A creation which is an answer, 'a true alternative to the new world wines', declared Clarendelle. Three different styles will constitute this serie of wines: a red one, a white one and a sweet one nicely called 'Amberwine'. A fourth one, rosé, is just going to be released. Although the wines are in accordance with the Bordeaux wines norms, that means that red wines are a blend of Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon and Cabernet franc, white ones a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon and 'Amberwine', a mix of Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc and Muscadelle, this range will not be labelled in accordance with its grape varieties. The name 'Clarendelle' comes from American financer -and a partime cattle-breeder- Clarence Dillon, who acquired the Château Haut-Brion in 1934 while it was suffering very dark moments.Today, Dillon group is runned by his grandson, Prince Robert de Luxembourg.
