Wine, the last extravagance of stars

Saturday 02/07/2005

Impossible to avoid stars, as it was their year at Vinexpo, the world wine exhibition that closed its doors a few days ago. Christophe Lambert, who came to show its Bacchus Box, was very successful. Gerard Depardieu took advantage of Vinexpo to announce the purchase of a vineyard in Hungary. Thanks to his top-fees “Gege” is the one to invest the most in vine. “The Château de Tigné, of which he is he unique owner is one of the most beautiful of the Val de Loire”, assets Christophe Blanck, former director of the Gault et Millau guide and commercial director of the domain. “They buy quality soils rather than first growths, It is a good sense decision, as they have no property investment to make”, as the Bordelese wine-maker Jean-Luc Thuvenin notices. The precursor Pierre Richard is the owner of its Corbieres wine since 1986. Gerard Depardieu invested in Anjou in 1988. At Uzes, Jean-Louis Trintignant took the plunge in 1997. During the last months, a “people” wave has surged on the wines. Jean-Luc Besson bought two vineyards in the Herault, Michel Sumacher set up next to Saint-Raphaël whereas David Beckham is located in the Var.
