2006 Bordeaux come out into the limelight
Monday 23/04/2007
After an outstanding 2005 vintage, even in its prices, how will a more heterogeneous 2006 vintage position itself this year? Two trends have already come to the fore: first, high-yield wines that have not always controlled the maturity of their grapes. And those that were able to. “The domains that have produced better wines in 2006 than in 2005 are numerous, because Cabernet Sauvignons are fuller and more powerful”, specifies Christophe Coupez, oenologist in Bordeaux. Such as Malartic Lagravière, Haut Marbuzet and Pontet Canet on the left bank, and Angélus and Monbousquet on the right bank, according to Investir Magazine. Red wines are thus heterogeneous, and purchases should focus on major brands, as great soils are an advantage for the 2006 vintage. On the other hand, dry white wines are a success. “They have surprising quality, well above average, with great fineness and a lot of elegance”, asserts a Bordeaux producer. But it is above all the lovers of Sauternes and Barsac who will be delighted. We expect great syrupy wines, such as Guiraud, De Fargues or, obviously, Yquem…
