Palmer 2006: “an exciting vintage”
Thursday 21/12/2006
While 2005 was a « cosy » vintage with perfect climatic conditions, as you can see in the Bordeaux wine storehouses, its successor appears more like a poem by Rimbaud: kind of an “unsettled state”, originating of a winemaker’s poetry and not responding to any known climatic versification!
After a warm spring and a blistering beginning of summer the year announced itself perfectly. Then there beat down the chill and the rain in August letting fear the worst for the grapes’ quality…. Capriciously the vintage 2006 demanded the maximum attention of Château Palmer’s team who knew, thanks to their know-how, to master the “enfant terrible” outright and yet gave it the liberty and the opportunity to be unique.
At the beginning of september the warmth returned and accelerated the “poem’s” rhythm. A phenomenon as fast as a monosyllabic fall: YES, the grapes of Margaux’s Lord are of an excellent quality und work in the wine storehouses announces itself exciting. “The different wines all present a brilliant fruit”, “of an outstanding fineness and complexity”, writes Philippe Delfaut in his chronic (http://www.chateau-palmer.com).
