Sauternes

Bordeaux

Some of the greatest sweet wines in the world are found here.

The Mythics

Château d'Yquem
First Class Growth. An unrivelled myth. "The extravagance of perfection".

The Lords

Château Climens
First Class Growth.
Rich and refined, this is considered the top château from Barsac.

Château Coutet
First Class Growth.
A stylish Barsac, producing, in exceptional vintages, the stunning Cuvée Madame.

Château Gillette
Cru Bourgeois.
Atypical! It does not appear in the official classification of Sauternes but it is however one of largest. The wine is high 20 years ferments some before the setting out of bottle. Incredible!

Château Rieussec
First Class Growth.
A superb "monster". Rich, powerful, with fantastic depth.

Château Suduiraut
First Class Growth. A remarkable wine. Rich and unctuous, in particular since the 1989 vintage.

The Mythics

Château Doisy Daëne
Second Class Growth.
A pure, delicate and perfectly balanced wine. The domain also produces a stylish dry white.

Château Guiraud
First Class Growth.
Flavors of apricots and honey linger in this rich yet elegant wine. With age the wine reveals greater delicacy.

Château de Fargues
What do Fargues and Yquem have in common? The same owner. The same exacting attention to details is required for both domains. Best kept for at least 10 years.

Château Filhot
Second Class Growth.
Un Sauternes très apprécié pour sa nervosité et son caractère original.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey
First Class Growth.
A Sauternes with its own special character, and underlying freshness.

Château La Tour Blanche
First Class Growth.
Great finesse that weaves its way onto a rich unctuous, fruity back drop.

Château Rabaud Promis
First Class Growth.
An unctuous, creamy almost fleshy wine. Lay it down for a few years and it will show great finesse.

Château Rayne Vigneau
First Class Growth.
Great "terroir" for this 190 acre domain. A remarkable wine.

Château Sigalas-Rabaud
First Class Growth.
Of a very large smoothness, supported by a beautiful fruit richness which is based in a very beautiful balance.

The Reasonables

Château Haut-Bergeron
This illustrious wine is located next to Yquem. A rich, unctuous wine, of world renow

Château Lamothe Guignard
Just like Myrat, this Castle is becoming impossible to circumvent on Sauternes. Succeeded particularly well over the year 2001.

Château Liot
Still confidential Sauternes but with the excellent quality-price ratio.

Château de Myrat
Second Class Growth.
A property in full revival since the end of the Eighties. Progress to be followed. Superb 2001.

Château de Malle
Second Class Growth.
Sauternes fruitier than liqueur-like with a good balance between acidity and sugar. A wine particularly successful in the great years.
