Saint-Emilion

Bordeaux

Wines within a class of their own, showing a generous, fruity roundness and plenty of charm.

The Mythics

Château Ausone
First Class Growth A.
The top Saint-Emilion. The Vauthier family produces approximately 20 000 bottles a year of this truly exceptional, aristocratic wine

Château Cheval Blanc
First Class Growth A.
Considered as one of the two top Saint-Emilions along with Château Ausone. Its unique “terroir” and high proportion of Cabernet Franc grapes (58%), contribute to its highly personalized, elegant style.

The Lords

Château Angelus
First Class Growth B.
One of the great châteaux of this appellation. It was awarded its class growth status in 1996, due to a long list of exemplary quality-oriented decisions including small yields and carefully selected hand-picked grapes. This modern style of wine, is superbly rich with concentrated flavors.

Château Figeac
First Class Growth B.
The last vintages confirm that this domain is now managing to produce constant quality in the best vintages. These concentrated wines age well.

Château Magdelaine
First Grand Class Growth B.
Possibly one of the finest wines of Saint-Emilion. This vineyard next to Château Ausone gives beautifully subtle, delicate wines with a velvety texture.

Château Pavie
First Grand Class Growth B.
Gérard Perse has put a tremendous amount of energy into this domaine, located on by far the best slope of Saint-Emilion. The wines have now reached a new quality level, showing an even greater concentration of flavors. Should really be kept a minimum of ten years.

The Absolus

Château La Gomerie
Caution! Impossible to circumvent, a remarkable microphone-vintage, a top, a wonder, an absolute. From a length inouie, one tears off it in the whole world.

Château La Mondotte
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
Very, very good property! A structure always very fatty, very creamy, a very long persistence. In a word: tasty.

Château Lynsolence
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
A property of 2 hectares, 100 % Merlot. Its quality - superb - makes, not single, but frankly exceptional.

Château Magrez-Fombrauge
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
Concentré, fruité, dense, intense, puissant et très impressionnant. En un seul qualificatif ? Le talent.

Château Peby-Faugères
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
A magnificence of talent, an exaltation of the merlot on a splendid soil, subset of the impossible to circumvent Faugères Castle.

Château Quinault-L’Enclos
"The rising star" according to Parker. A jewel enters the hands of very good Doctor Raynault, one of the best ambassadors of the perfection of Bordeaux.

Château Valandraud
A vigorous monster with the marvellous flavours and the smoothness carried to its paroxysm. Enormous!

The Mythics

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot
First Class Growth B. A high percentage of the Merlot grape, producing a soft, harmonious wine. Superb.

Château Canon La Gaffelière
Great Class Growth. An intense, beautifully balanced wine, wonderfully deep and concentrated. The château has shown a steady quality progress, vintage after vintage.

Château Dassault
Great C lass Growth. Rich expressive wines, with a light oakiness and plenty of finesse. The vineyard is planted with 2/3 Merlot, the rest is planted with the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.

Château Larmande
Great Class Growth.
It is one of Saint-Emilion most regular. A rich bouquet, a well balanced mouth. To start to taste.

Château Troplong Mondot
Great Class Growth.
As from the 1990s this wine became one of the leaders of the appellation. The quality took off, but unfortunately so too did the price.

The Reasonables

Château Les Gravières
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.
The owner of this small 10-acre domaine also owns the much talked about Château Lynsolence. Both domaine are planted with 100% Merlot grapes. The wines with their up-front fruit are soft and tender. The 2000 vintage is a great success.

Château Moulin Saint Georges
Great Class Cru.
Realized by the team of Ausone Castle. It is presented very well, round, fruity, long, without exubérance. "minis" Ausone to some extent!
